About Alfred Lee Hatfield

A native of Southampton County, VA and a descendant of the Southampton County Hatfield family that dates back to the earliest days of Virginia history, Alfred Lee Hatfield is a father, farmer, husband and one who has greatly invested into the history of Franklin, Southampton County.

The Hatfield family's roots date back to even before the first records were formed in 1745 for Southampton County - and stemming to some of the earliest records found in Virginia.

Mr. Hatfield began his quest to trace his family history before the days of the internet and did the foot work, talking with local families, visiting cemeteries, and searching through the records at the Southampton County Courthouse before they were readily available for viewing by the Brantley Association in 2008.

Mr. Hatfield attended Franklin High School, is a long standing member of Black Creek Baptist church where his family has attended for generations and are found in some of that church's earliest records.  He served in the Franklin National Guard and went on to become a meat specialist and buyer for commissaries of the armed forces worldwide.

In 2003 Hatfield retired from serving in civil service to pour back into the community and devote time to one of his past times in researching genealogy.  His rich knowledge of the local community history and families has inspired many to form this search resource for others to use in their quest.

Alfred Lee Hatfield married Carol Faye Byrd in 1960 and they live in Franklin VA.   They have five children and nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
